LOST - Genomics Core Facility

Overview of Services

Genomics Core Facility (GCF) provides resources and services to support your research needs for high-throughput genomics. The GCF goal is to provide state-of-the-art genomics technology to Norwegian scientists with the best possible service and lowest cost.

Our service includes whole genome gene expression and genotyping microarray analysis using Illumina or Affymetrix platforms. We have now alos introduced a DNA/RNA sequencing service, based on state-of-the-art "high throughput sequencing" (HTS) technology (Illumina HiSeq2500). HTS can be used for a variety of studies e.g.: de novo sequencing, whole genome or targeted resequencing, complete exome sequencing, whole genome transcriptome profiling including quantification and transcript isoforms and small RNAs, ChIP-Seq to detect transcription binding sites across the genome and metagenomic sequencing of microflora genomes.

Modern genome analysis critically depends on expertise in computational biology (e.g. bioinformatics, biostatistics, and theoretical systems biology). Such expertise is closely integrated with our facility in order to optimize throughput, data handling, and analysis. As many researchers who will utilize the services at GCF do not have the experience required for efficient analysis of the data, our bioinformaticians provides a crucial bridge between the experimental platform and users.

This core facility is organised within Department of Cancer Research and Molecular Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, NTNU. We are also a part of a national genomics consortium (NGC).

Facility certification

The Genomics Core Facility has successfully completed an Illumina CSPro™ certification for gene expression and SNP genotyping, gaining entry to an elite group of Illumina genomics service providers globally. Illumina Inc., a San Diego-based company, provides leading-edge genetic analysis tools to genomics centers worldwide. Illumina CSPro is the collaborative service provider partnership dedicated to ensure the delivery of the highest-quality data available for genetic analysis applications. Illumina CSPro participants undergo a rigorous two-phase certification process that includes minimum data generation, data certification, and an on-site audit of the facility and processes.
